Area Guide / Northern New Jersey / Bergen / Alpine

Town:Alpine

Alpine is a Borough of approximately 2,200 residents located along the Palisades, just south of the New York State border in Bergen County, New Jersey. The area that is now Alpine was carved out of Harrington Township on April 13, 1903. Alpine is considered one of the wealthiest towns in the county, and its average home price is considerably higher than prices in surrounding towns.

What attracts people to Alpine is its rural setting, outstanding elementary school and the privacy enjoyed by residents, all located just eight miles from Manhattan. Route 9W and the Palisades Parkway bisect the Borough, and the bus ride to Manhattan is approximately thirty-six minutes.

Alpine schools are very highly regarded throughout the region. Students in grades kindergarten through eight attend Alpine Public School, with a state of the art media lab, language classes, and low student to teacher ratio. High School students attend Tenafly High School as part of a receivership. Tenafly High School is ranked among the top four high schools in New Jersey.

Alpine is an idyllic community and has attracted such high profile residents such as Stevie Wonder, Yankees outfielder Gary Sheffield, entertainers Jay Z and Sean Combs, as well as actors Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes. With fantastic schools, an ideal location, a rural setting and a tight sense of community, Alpine attracts a variety of people who call this community home.
