With approximately 12,300 residents, Cedar Grove is located just 18 miles from New York City, 65 miles from the Jersey Shore and covers 4.2 square miles in Essex County, New Jersey. Cedar Grove is mostly residential in nature and is situated between the first and second chains of the Watchung Mountains.

Cedar Grove is close to several major roadways, including Route 23, Route 3 and Route 46, which provide easy and fast access to Newark Liberty Airport, which is just fifteen miles away, other parts of New Jersey and New York City.
 
Residents of all ages enjoy a variety of recreational activities that are available year-round in Cedar Grove. In the summer months, residents enjoy taking a swim at the Cedar Grove Community Pool or catching an outdoor movie on Friday nights at Morgan’s Farm Park. Cedar Grove also offers residents a variety of entertainment options, including a large-scale movie theater and its own bowling alley.
 
Cedar Grove is home to two elementary schools, one middle school and one high School. Elementary school students attend either South End Elementary School or North End Elementary School and middle school students attend Cedar Grove Memorial Middle School. High School students in grades nine through twelve attend Cedar Grove High School.
