With a population of approximately 27,000 people, Livingston is located 23 miles from New York City, and covers about 14 square miles in Essex County, New Jersey. Livingston offers its residents numerous recreational and entertainment activities, a strong public school system and a variety of real estate options. Livingston is located in close proximity to many major highways, including the Garden State Parkway, Route 79 and Route 80, providing residents with fast and easy access New York City and just about anywhere in New Jersey. Livingston is also home to an Amtrak station and offers public transportation by bus or train to points throughout New Jersey, as well as New York City.
 
Livingston offers its residents a variety of parks and recreational activities, including the Livingston Dog Park, which opened in 2003. Residents also enjoy East Hills Park, where they can take scenic walks or go jogging year-round on the well-maintained running paths. The Livingston Senior and Community Center offers a variety of activities, including outdoor sports and arts and cultural activities. 

Livingston also has a fine public school system that serves students in kindergarten through twelfth grade. There are six district elementary schools for grades kindergarten through five. Livingston has one middle school for grade six and another for grades seven and eight. Livingston High School holds students from grades nine through twelve and was awarded the Blue Ribbon Award, the highest honor a High School can receive from the United States Department of Education.
