Area Guide / Northern New Jersey / Hudson / Bayonne

Town:Bayonne

Connected to Staten Island, New York by the Bayonne Bridge, Bayonne, New Jersey offers a fast commute to midtown and downtown Manhattan, a diverse population and a variety of real estate for sale in Hudson County. Nearly 60,000 residents live in the city’s eleven square miles of land, and the town offers a variety of real estate options, including high-rise apartment buildings and condominiums.

Located just across the Hudson River from New York City, Bayonne has an extensive transportation system and is home to many Manhattan commuters. Commuters enjoy short travel times and numerous transportation options into Manhattan and beyond, including buses, trains and nearby major roadways.
Local transportation is also available by both bus and train. Bus transportation is provided on Broadway, Kennedy Boulevard and Avenue C and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail provides access to many other towns and cities within the county.

In addition to its close proximity to the world-renowned cultural, dining and shopping options of nearby New York City, Bayonne residents enjoy a variety of dining and shopping options located right in town, including on Broadway. Named after the famous Broadway in New York City, Bayonne’s Broadway offers an eclectic mix of restaurants and shops that are enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike.

When it was completed in 1931, the Bayonne Bridge was the longest steel arch bridge ever constructed. Today, it is the third longest bridge of its type in the world, following the Lupa Bridge in Shanghai and the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia.

The public school system in Bayonne offers its residents ten elementary schools comprising kindergarten through eighth grades, and one high school, Bayonne High School, which holds grades nine through twelve. In recent years, one of Bayonne’s elementary schools, Mary J. Donahue School, was named a “Star School”, which is the highest honor a NJ school can achieve, by the NJ Department of Education.

With such a large variety of homes for sale and property types to offer, not to mention the city’s close proximity to New York City, it is not surprising that Bayonne real estate attracts buyers and renters from across the Hudson River and around the state.
