Jersey City, with its population of over 240,000 diverse people, is New Jersey’s second largest city. Located across the Hudson River from Manhattan, it sits on a peninsula between the Hudson and Hackensack Rivers. It offers breathtaking views of the New York skyline, a fast commute into downtown Manhattan, and many unique hot spots. One of the most ethnically and culturally diverse cities in the country, Jersey City's downtown neighborhoods are experiencing rapid re-birth as professionals working in Manhattan begin to move in. Residents and tourists alike enjoy visiting historic landmarks, such as the 1909 Fairmont Hotel and the 1929 Loews Jersey Theatre. Jersey City’s many attractions, including the Circle Line Statue of Liberty Ferry, the Hudson Repertory Dance Theatre and the Liberty Science Center provide year round entertainment. Liberty State Park offers beautiful grounds, biking and walking trails, and rafting and canoeing is available for more adventurous residents in the summer months. Beginning in the 1970s, Jersey City has become a hub for local artists as well. The Jersey City Museum, established in 1901, has worked to raise the profile of local Jersey City artists in recent years.
